About The Department:

A leading defence agency committed to advancing science and technology to support our country's defence and security needs. Within our Research Technology Operations (RTO) division, we play a central role in providing professional business-enabling functions across Work Health and Safety, Security, and Workforce Management. We are currently seeking a talented and experienced Business Communication Manager to join our team and drive effective communication strategies in support of key RTO projects.

Role Summary:

The Business Communication Manager will be instrumental in designing, developing, and implementing communication activities that support key RTO projects, focusing on Work Health and Safety, Security, and Workforce Management. In this role, you will collaborate closely with project managers and stakeholders within the RTO team to foster strong relationships and promote awareness of project activities. You will develop internal communication strategies to enhance staff engagement and build the organisation's reputation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Multi-Channel Communication: Produce compelling communication materials across various channels, including emails, newsletters, brochures, flyers, factsheets, presentations, and web pages.
  • Communication Artefacts: Contribute to the creation of communication artefacts such as templates, branding guidelines, and messaging standards.
  • Information Translation: Work closely with projects to translate complex information into clear, simple concepts that address stakeholder needs.
  • Communication Plans: Assist with the development of communication plans as required by projects.
  • Activity Evaluation: Evaluate communication activities to ensure objectives are met and contribute to the execution and updating of communication and digital marketing strategies.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and maintain strong client engagement with stakeholders through various consultation techniques, encouraging genuine feedback.
  • Internal Collaboration: Collaborate with researchers and internal staff to create engaging communications that connect with the research community through platforms such as SharePoint, websites, and other tools.
  • Innovative Ideas: Develop and implement innovative ideas for effective communication within the Research Community.
  • Problem-Solving: Demonstrate critical thinking skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and solve problems quickly and effectively.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in a communication management role, preferably within a defence or research environment.
  • Strong ability to create multi-channel communication materials and strategies.
  • Excellent skills in translating complex information into clear, accessible content.
  • Experience in developing communication plans and evaluating their effectiveness.
  • Demonstrated ability to engage with stakeholders and internal teams effectively.
  • Proficiency with communication tools and platforms, including SharePoint and digital marketing strategies.
  • Security Clearance: Must hold Negative Vetting Level 1.
